I am proud to present the newest addition to my website offerings: Scribbles and Jots! I've been batting around the idea of a Monthly Newsletter for a while but couldn't seem to find the time until now. Well, okay, I created the time now which actually makes this even better when you think about it!
There are a couple of options to snag your digital copy. You can download it from here on the blog (look at the end of this post), catch the post announcing a new edition on my Facebook page, or sign up to receive it each month in your inbox and then just kick your feet up and wait for it to arrive!
So, what will you find inside? Each issue will contain a "Be Creative" corner with a challenge to create something using only the three listed items. I would LOVE to see what you come up with so please send a picture for me to post here and on Facebook with your creation! (My e-mail address is included in the section.)
There will also always be a "Prompt". I won't say it's a writing prompt although it's on the writing page. I don't want to stifle the creative process in any way. Instead, use it however it calls to you. Write, paint, build a sculpture. Create an interpretive dance in your kitchen while doing dishes. It's completely up to you. JUST BE CREATIVE WITH IT!!!! The more creativity you sneak into your every day life, the happier you will be. Trust me! I know!
There is also a suggestion to add to your writing journal, project, scrap of paper shoved into a drawer, etc. That has a big, colorful W beginning the sentence. Run with it! See where it takes you! You may be surprised by the journey.
Another item you can send to me for interactive blog/Facebook purposes is your answer to the monthly "Opinion Time" section. Sure it starts out with some writing and art related things but I have no doubt we'll be heading into the realm of "Would you rather talk like a giraffe or a penguin" in no time at all!
"It Came from My Brain!!!" is a page dedicated to sharing what is going on in my creative world. If I've got a project going, I plan to share snippets here and there. If I can't share snippets because the project involves the super secret land of Freelance Work, I'll share notes about my process or progress or possibly completely unrelated information that I've found useful over the years. In other words, it is seriously hard to say what you might find on that page. All I will promise is that it came from somewhere between my own ears and wanted to come meet you. I will make sure it's on its best behavior when it does.
Aside from these things, content may vary throughout the year. I will do my best to keep it positive, entertaining, and interesting. I've tried to make the wordier sections appealing to you parents/caregivers/older kids/etc. out there while keeping the ideas manageable for all ages. The big goal is to help you find more ways to be creative in your day to day life. It's important stuff! Creativity is the difference between living and existing. Don't ever let anyone tell you different.
So, now I will step off of my soap box and let you download January's edition. I hope you enjoy its contents and adding your own flare to the challenges in its pages! As always, questions, comments, suggestions, etc. are welcome. I read them all!
Stay warm out there!
Being a homeschooling parent for 13 years and an independent author/illustrator makes a person learn quite a bit about a lot of things. Now it's time to pass it on!
