I'm here to tell you, folks, there is so much more to this whole write a story and draw some pictures to go with it thing if you are planning to create for more than just yourself or a few close friends or family members. Life would be so much better if writers or artists could just snuggle up in their comfy spot and create to their hearts content. But if you are planning to introduce your creations to the world in the hopes that they will find love out there, you also have to market.
Just for the record, in my experience marketing requires a certain amount of extroverted self-confidence that does not come naturally to some of us. I can fake being outgoing to a believable degree but at heart I am an introvert. Promoting myself makes me uncomfortable. Trying to convince strangers to buy my work makes me uncomfortable. Cameras make me uncomfortable. My recorded voice makes me uncomfortable. You get the picture.
So, what am I doing right now? Well, I'm working on a video series that will hopefully guide anyone interested through my personal process for creating a 32 page picture book. Yep, you read that right. I am stepping WAY outside my comfort zone in the hope that it not only helps me reach a larger audience but that it helps that audience explore their own creativity along with me.
Am I nervous? Yes. Do I think I look like a total weirdo on the video? Sure. Does my slight lisp still bother me after going on 5 decades of talking with it? Absolutely. So why am I doing this? Because a personal only really grows when they face their challenges. Here is my introductory growth spurt.
